Where is the Burgeoning Hispanic Market?

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 49% of the total U.S. Hispanic population lives in California or Texas. Although these markets remain a mainstay of the robust Hispanic population, other areas of the country have also seen remarkable growth. In Florida alone, from 1990 to 2005, the Hispanic population has nearly doubled in Tampa and Miami, while the population in Orlando has quadrupled.

As a whole, Hispanics are much more likely to live in urban areas. In fact, 94% of Hispanic households are located in central cities of metropolitan areas where the cost of housing is generally higher and housing units are more likely to be located in buildings with multiple dwellings. Since the Hispanic community values family and community, they tend to move near relatives and friends, or other Hispanics.

Chicago boasts the highest rate of homeownership among Hispanics. More than half of Hispanics own their own home compared to only 16 percent of Hispanic New Yorkers and 40 percent of Hispanics in L.A.
